The Milky way all the way

Milky way all the way

Milky way all the way

Have you ever happend that you just stood on a place from which you saw the Milky Way even behind you? Well, this place is called La Silla Observatory. Even though this image could seem like a photomontage, trust me – it’s not. This is real view between platforms of the telescopes at La Silla just on the edge of the main road, which follows the domes there. To keep the safety, there is prohibited to use the main lights of cars and you can follow only the small bulbs on the road. Also on the crosses there are convex mirrors like this one, which is – luckily – placed right on the opposite direction of rising Milky way, while the setting part is just in front of you. Like a bonus, just in the middle of the image you can see even faint Gegenschein and plane Jupiter almost in the center of it. Image was taken on 22nd January 2015, used Canon 6D Baader IR Mod, Samyang 24 mm, f2,0, ISO 10000, 15×15 s panorama, tripod
