While the VLTs were resting

Usually one of the most scientifically productive ESO Paranal Observatory had to rest on 26th January 2015. Why? The views to the clear skies disrupted a frontal overcast. But as you can see, even in the bad weather the starry sky is still incredible there in the Atacama desert. So while the VLTs were resting, I took my camera anyway and captured this majestic view to the Milky way above the “domes” of the giant telescopes. You can enjoy all the objects in it as Orion, the hunter, with the Barnard’s loop, Vela nebula, Magellanic clouds, Southern Cross or Carina. A green hue belongs to the luminiscenting atmosphere. The clouds made me even better conditions as a diffuse filter making bright halo around the brightest stars. Rest for the telescopes just didn’t mean the bad photographic conditions at all! Used Canon 6D IR Baader Mod, Samyang 24 mm, f2.0, ISO 10000, 62×15 s panorama; tripod.
