The setting Moon’s aura
While the
Gibbous Moon of 10th December was slowly setting over a cloudy horizon of
Seč reservoir, I have noticed there is also higher cloudiness passing by. Just in a short moment before the Moon disappeared, very colorful “aura” created around it. The phenomenon is called Lunar aureole or
atmospheric corona, produced by produced by the diffraction of light from the the Moon by individual small water droplets and sometimes tiny ice crystals of a cloud. So I quickly set my camera Canon 6D with 500mm lenses on
Vixen Polarie mount and captured this shot (ISO 100, exp. 2.5s with f8).
