Planetary parade over Seč reservoir

Last night, on 29th May 2018, the full Moon over the Seč reservoir, the Czech Republic, was very nicely accompanied by the bright morning planets with their opposition dates within only 79 days. Looking from right, the brightest planet is giant Jupiter, which reached its opposition and closest point to Earth on 10th May. A bit fainter but beautiful in telescopes, planet Saturn, can be found on left part just over the pier and it’s, actually, close to Earth as well. The opposition will occur on 27th June 2018. Most interesting is, however, visibility of red planet Mars, the bright object over the horizon on the left. Mars will be closest to Earth in the end of this July. In fact, it will be greatest opposition of the red planet since 2003, giving to the observers one of the best circumstances to capture details on its surface. Due to slow angular movement of all three planets in the sky around times of their oppositions, this planetary parade will last for next 3 months and later in the summer (of northern hemisphere) the brilliantly bright “evening star”, planet Venus, will join it as well.
