From little planet to Exoplanets

Four domes of relatively new 1m-diameter SPECULOOS telescopes (first light observed last year) on this “little Atacama planet” try to achieve exciting discovery of new Earth-size planets around ultra-cool or brown-dwarf stars, whose planetary populations are still mostly unexplored. Only a few exoplanets have been found orbiting such stars, and even fewer lie within their parent star’s habitable zone. In the foreground, the powerful lasers of ESO Paranal Observatory ataptive optics can be seen in action, such as beautiful central part of the Milky Way, the Magellanic clouds or even faint airglow in the sky. Used Canon 6D Baader IR Modified, Samyang 24 mm, f2.2, ISO 10000, 47 single 15s exposures stitched to panorama (captured from tripod). Image taken on 4th July 2019.
