Comet 17P Holmes

Comet 17P Holmes had extreme outburst in 2007, Oct. 24. Its brightness had changed from 17 magnitude to 2 magnitude. The reason of this outburst is still unknown (in more facts). But iac it is one of the most interesting outburst of comet in cometary history ever. In addition, observers of northern hemisphere had special opportunity to see everyday changes of comet's expanding coma. Here in Czech republic we could see the comet just in zenith!

Picture from Dalibor Hanžl. I assisted in making this exposure (winning picure of Czech astrophotography of the month for October 2007; more in article at webpage www.astro.cz).
